Academic Team
Overview
The NJROTC Academic Team challenges cadets to apply knowledge, teamwork, and critical thinking in competitive environments. Academic Team members represent the unit by demonstrating excellence in Naval Science knowledge, leadership principles, and academic discipline.
The Academic Team is divided into two specialized teams, allowing cadets to compete in different academic formats while supporting unit success at events and competitions.
What Is the Academic Team?
The Academic Team focuses on knowledge-based competition and preparation. Cadets study and practice topics such as:
-
Naval Science and NJROTC curriculum material
-
Leadership and citizenship
-
Military history and current events
Brain Brawl Team
The Brain Brawl Team competes in fast-paced quiz-style competitions. Cadets answer questions individually and as a team, requiring quick thinking, strong knowledge, and teamwork.
Drill Competition Academics Team
The Drill Competition Academics Team prepares for the academic portion of NJROTC drill meets. Cadets are tested on Naval Science knowledge, chain of command, and NJROTC standards as part of overall unit scoring at competitions.
