Rank Structure
The NJROTC rank structure is modeled after the United States Navy and is used to organize the unit and develop leadership skills. Ranks reflect a cadet’s level of responsibility, performance, and commitment to the program. Advancement in rank is earned through participation, demonstrated leadership, academic performance, and adherence to NJROTC standards.
Enlisted Ranks
Enlisted cadets form the foundation of the NJROTC unit. As cadets advance through the enlisted ranks, they take on increased responsibility and are expected to set a positive example for others.

Officer Ranks
Officer cadets are selected based on leadership ability, performance, and maturity. Officers are responsible for planning, supervising, and leading unit activities while upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.

Rank Insignia
Each rank is represented by a specific insignia worn on the uniform. Proper placement and wear of rank insignia are required at all times while in uniform. Cadets are responsible for ensuring their insignia is correct and in accordance with NJROTC regulations. (See "References" page)
